Diary: TJ & J Smith's Small Scribbling Diary, 1894.
Entries commence on 23 Feb and continue to 8 Jan 1895. In Feb he left on the Oceana for Gibraltar and remained there until 20 Jun when he sailed to Egypt on the Oroya. After garrison duties on the Rock he was appointed to the Egyptian Army and served with the 10th Sudanese Bn at Assouan from 21 July. At the end of the diary are the usual lists of letters and notes on his finanical transactions.
