Description

Photocopy of handwritten chapters seven and eight from the handwritten memoirs by Sgt W J Sadler, Royal Artillery and No 6 Commando, 1944-1945. Pages 50 to 84. Chapter seven details his training after he volunteered for the Commandos in Wales and Scotland. Chapter eight, entitled, ‘From the Maas to the Baltic’, consists of his wartime service with No 6 Commando in North West Europe, 1944-1945. W J Sadler was a regular soldier in the Royal Artillery and rose to Sergeant but relinquished this rank to volunteer for the Commandos. The two chapters describe his training at the Holding Operational Commando (HOC) at Wrexham, then at the Commando Basic Training Centre (CBTC) at Achnagarry, Scotland. He then saw active service with No 6 Commando. After the war he enlisted in the Australian Army. The chapters were sent to Maj J Dunning in 1988 when he was researching his book, ‘It Had to be Tough: the Fascinating Story of the Origins of the Commandos and their Special Training in World War 2’. Associated with World War Two, North West Europe (1944-1945).
