Captain (later Major General Sir) Stuart Brownlow Beatson was born on 11 July 1854. He was educated at Wellington College in Berkshire. He wears the following medals (from left to right) India General Service Medal 1854-95 with clasp for Jowaki, 2nd Afghan War Medal 1878-80 with clasp for Ali Musjid, Egyptian Campaigns Medal 1882-89 and the Khedive’s Egyptian Star 1882-91.
