Photograph showing the Corps of Drums, 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards, standing in a street with a building behind them, Gibraltar, 1899. They are all wearing their full dress scarlet tunics with elaborate braiding and shoulder wings, and white Foreign Service helmets. Standing at the front is Sgt Drummer Benjamin Gates, holding a short staff in place of the taller Drum Major’s mace. Behind him are other drummers, with more musicians further back. Probably part of a church parade.

From an album of 89 photographs related to the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards in Gibraltar and Morocco, 1899. Mainly images showing other ranks group portraits, sports teams, marching, rifle drill.
