Written on Anchor Line Twin Screw Steamer Transylvania headed note paper, from 2nd Lieutenant Howard Hicklenton to his parents in London.
The battalion is on board ship heading for Marseilles, but does not know their subsequent destination.
With accompanying Anchor Line envelope, postage free with manuscript inscription ‘On Active Service’, with Army post Office S7 circular date stamp, ‘A’ 24 April 1916, passed by Field Censor 1461 with red crown hexagonal stamp, signed H Hicklenton, with ‘EXAMINED BY BASE CENSOR’ adhesive.
