Manuscript letter to ‘My dear Anderson’ from W M Hughes, King’s House, Durban, 18 Jul 1916. Describes his voyage to the Cape and the unpleasant atmosphere in South Africa. From a collection of 1414 papers of FM William, Lord Birdwood, relating chiefly to his career in the Indian Army, 1882-1930. Associated with World War One (1914-1918).
