Photograph of Capt James Aylmer Paynter, Royal Navy, Commander of HMS Racoon, 1859 (c). He sits on a stool in front of a wall wearing his naval uniform and holding his cap. An umbrella has been placed leaning against the wall. Paynter commanded HMS Racoon from it’s first launch in 1857 until May 1860, before commanding other ships. A later attached memorandum by a Commander Parker who served under Rear-Adrmiral Paynter states that the ships’ companies of HMS Racoon and HMS Vigilant were present in review order at the presentation of the Colours to the 9th (East Norfolk) Regiment at Corfu in 1859. From a photograph album of 83 photographs compiled for the Corfu Garrison Club by Capt Arthur E V Ponsonby, Grenadier Guards and presented by him on the garrison's departure to Deputy Commissary General Robert Grey Donaldson-Selby, 1859-1860.
