Order of Dannebrog, Knight 2nd Class, n.d. From medal group awarded to Captain (later Lieutenant Colonel) Bernard Stanley Collard, Commanding Officer, 4th Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), 1931-1936. This medal is suspended from a white ribbon with a thin, red border and is connected to a crown via a ring suspender. It is the neck badge that was awarded to commanders of the order (second class). The obverse is a four armed cross with a longer lower limb, coated in white enamel with a red border. At the top of the cross is the royal cypher for Christian V, also inscribed in the centre. The motto 'GUD OG KONGEN' is inscribed on the arms of the cross meaning 'God and the King'. In each gap between the arms there is a crown. The reverse is similarly coated in a white enamel with a red border with two royal cyphers in the centre: Frederick VI (top) and Valdemar II (below). The dates 1671, 1808 and 1219 are inscribed on the arms, representing the dates that each monarch began their reign. From the collection of the former Buffs Regimental Museum.
