Letter from Ensign Gordon Hugh Davidson, Bengal European Light Infantry, to his father, Subathoo, 13 Sep 1844.
He writes, ‘You have not an idea of expence [sic] between an European and Native Regiment; there are so many more subscriptions and one thing and another in the European that they have not in the Native that it is very difficult to live on ones pay.’
