Description

Letter from Lt Col Henry Murray to Lt W Siborne, Assistant Military Secretary, Wimbledon, 27 Dec 1834. Murray responds to Siborne's letter, dated 1 Nov 1834 in Dublin, asking him for information on the Battle of Waterloo in relation to the 18th Hussars formation, the composition of the fields and the positions, movements and formations of the contending armies around seven p. m. on 18 June 1815 (as Siborne was making a Model of the Field and Battle of Waterloo). After reading through the letters of Sir Hussey Vivian (his published account with the 6th Brigade of Cavalry), Major Gawler and Major General Sir Thomas Reynell (C.B.) Murray tries to contribute his 'less perfect recollection'. Murray writes Siborne's questions - 'inquiry' and his answers adjacent in two separate columns. From a collection of papers of Lt Col Sir Henry Murray of the period 1813-1860 (c). Associated with the Battle of Waterloo (1815).
