They are Maj Charles Richard Britten, Lt William Reginald James Alston-Roberts-West, Lt Phillips (probably Grismond Picton Philipps) and Lt Hall-Hall, 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards. They are pictured in the arena on horseback, their white arm bands show that they are umpires or judges, and are receiving instructions from another officer standing nearby. From an album of 73 photographs compiled by or presented to Lt Col Osbert Walter Dudley Smith. The album is entitled: ‘Personal Album of O W D Smith’, and covers the period 1912-1930 (c).
