Manuscript letter to Lt Col William Stirling, Royal Horse Artillery in Campbellpore, India, from one of his children, possibly Anne Douglas, as she is 12 years old as stated in the letter, in Larbert, Scotland, 5 Dec 1877. From the Stirling family correspondence, comprising over 700 letters and envelopes, 1846 (c)-1881 (c). Majority of the letters are to or from Col William Stirling, later Gen Sir William Stirling, Royal Artillery and Royal Horse Artillery. Associated with 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880). In 1876 he and his wife Anna and their youngest children travelled to India where Col Stirling was a commanding officer in the Koorum Field Force during the 2nd Afghan War of 1878-1880. Many of the letters have been sent between India and Britain, and internally in India between Col Stirling and his wife.
