Description
Photograph: Digging trenches, 1915. Shows men digging trenches on a hillside, possibly part of the Birdcage defences, Salonika, taken by Capt Philip Rolls Asprey whilst serving with 2nd Bn The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), actually probably 1916. From a photograph album of 86 photographs taken by Capt Philip Rolls Asprey, MC, 1914-1918. Unusually, though in the ranks, Asprey seems to have had a camera with him. Associated with Minor actions in the Struma Valley, World War One, Salonika (1916-1918).
