A regiment of the Bank of England Volunteers was first formed in 1798 to protect the Bank during the Napoleonic Wars, but was disbanded in 1814.
In 1860, four Corps of Civil Service Volunteers were raised and in 1866 four more were added, including the Bank of England Company.
