Covering life working for Colonel Sir Henry Lawrence, the Resident of Lahore, undertaking field survey work in Lahore, and life as part of the Corps of Guides dealing with unrest during the Second Anglo-Sikh War, including discussions over role accompanying Lieutenant Patrick Vans Agnew to Multan.
