Photograph of the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards formed up in several lines at Wellington Barracks, London, before they left for Gibraltar, 1898. They wear Walking Out order, with scarlet tunics, white belts and pouches and a white helmet with the regimental cypher on the front. They hold their rifles down by their sides, whilst the officers in the front row hold their swords resting on their right shoulders. The Corps of Drums can be seen standing to the left with their instruments. Other buildings and trees can be seen in the background, with possibly members of the public watching them from behind the railings. Image produced by W. Gregory & Co., London, and F. G. O. Stuart. From a photograph album of 111 photographs entitled '2nd Battalion 1897-1909', relating to the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards in the UK, South Africa and Gibraltar from 1897 to 1909. Mostly group photos and individual portraits.
