Photograph of the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards formed up in at least three long lines on a South African plain (possibly near Harrismith), taken during the Boer War, 1900-1902 (c). They are wearing khaki drill uniform with pith helmets, and have their rifles with fixed bayonets resting on their right shoulders. The huts, tents and equipment of their camp can be seen in the distance behind them, as can the mountains. Lt John Arnold C Quilter is in the image, as is Maj Robert Scott-Kerr. From a photograph album of 111 photographs entitled '2nd Battalion 1897-1909', relating to the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards in the UK, South Africa and Gibraltar from 1897 to 1909. Mostly group photos and individual portraits.
