Photograph of a large group, possibly a Company, of soldiers and officers from the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards, 1903 (c). They pose for the image sitting or standing in six rows, with trees behind them. The image was probably taken in the United Kingdom after the battalion had returned from South Africa in October 1902. The men are wearing khaki service dress and slouch hats. Two regimental drums are displayed on the ground in front of them. The Sgt Major and six officers sit in the centre of the second row (behind those sitting on the ground) wearing either service dress, patrol jackets or frock coats with peaked caps. They are named as (from left to right): Sgt Maj William Edward Acraman (fourth from the left); Lt John Arnold Quilter (fifth from the left); Maj Robert Gordon-Gilmour (sixth from the left); Capt William Edwin Cavendish (seventh from the left); 2/Lt Lord Francis G M D Scott (sixth from the right); Lt Humphrey St Leger Stucley (fifth from the right); QM and Lt Col (Hon) William G A Garton (fourth from the right). From a photograph album of 111 photographs entitled '2nd Battalion 1897-1909', relating to the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards in the UK, South Africa and Gibraltar from 1897 to 1909. Mostly group photos and individual portraits.
