Photograph: 10/1/16 Battle of Shaik Saad, Aeroplane B.E. 2C No4500 undergoing repairs after battle of Shaik Saad. Capt Murray (The Guides) RFC flew this aeroplane and arrived in time to do reconnaissances during the Battle of Ctesiphon. Subsequently he flew it out of Kut to Ali Gharbi. All reconnaissances during the halt at Ali Gharbi during December, the battles of Shaik Saad, the Wadi and the first attack on Hannah were carried out by Capt. Murray on this machine & by Capt. Petre on a Maurice Farman; these being the only machines available. I think I am right in stating that for six weeks these 2 machines flew every day, often doing 2 or 3 reconnaissances, which I believe is a record. Shows an aircraft undergoing repairs. Inscribed as title on reverse. From a collection of 265 photographs compiled by Maj W Leith-Ross, Indian Army Staff, 1915-1917. Associated with the Battle of Shaik Saad, 6-24 Jan 1916.
