TS typed copy by Lawrence Lockhart Maxwell later of the original handwritten letter he wrote in his notebook. Addressed to his sisters, dated September 1915 written from France. He states the original was written in a field notebook in a cave. Lawrence describes in great detail the surroundings, trench positions as well as locations of regiments. He refers to places back home and asks his sisters to substitiute these places with mounds, hedges, trenches etc so that they can get a clearer view of what he is describing. Along with the letter is a original drawing of a map, to help his sisters visual what he is describing. The letter also mentions his brother Francis Maxwell, but when typing later Lawrence added in his date of death.
