A piece of card and envelope to Lawrence Lockhart Maxwell the card has a leaf attached to it (or perhaps ostrich feather) with a miniature painting of a refugee camp on it.
The card reads ‘To dear Major L.L. Maxwell with warmest gratitude and best wishes, from the sisters. Souvenir from the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Potchefstroom - July 9 1901’. The painting on the leaf is ‘Refugees camp near the railway station at Potchefstroom, Transvaal’.
Also a note saying Maxwell was nursed by the Sisters of the Convent.
