Miniature medal, Turkish Crimea Medal 1855. From a collection of miniature medals associated with Lt Gen Sir Charles Knight Pearson, late 3rd (East Kent) Regiment of Foot (the Buffs). This medal is suspended from a red ribbon with dark blue/black edges and is connected via a ring suspender. This medal has been mounted the wrong way around. The obverse (normally reverse) depicts a cannon on the Imperial Russian flag, with an anchor and a mortar. The four flags of the allies are behind the canon, the Union Flag for Great Britain, the tricolour for France and the flag of the Kingdom of Sardinia. The Turkish flag is placed centre left. Below this are the words 'LA CRIMEA / 1855' suggesting this is the Sardinian issue of this medal. The reverse (normally obverse) displays a wreath circling the Ottoman Sultan's monogram and the year 1271. Made by Ortner and Houle, 3 St James's Street, London, SW. Medals mounted on a bar with a brooch fitting on a medal bar of 4. Received in jeweller's case of issue.
