Pair of shoulder straps, 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers), worn by Gen Edmund Richard Jeffreys, 1834-1848. Blue strap trimmed with gold lace; bears a Major's embroidered badge of rank (a star). Gilt buton bearing: within a scalloped border, a shamrock wreath, superimposed upon the base of which is a scroll bearing the motto 'QUIS SEPERABIT'[sic]; below, a female harp; wreath encloses circlet with title 'CONNAUGHT RANGERS' within which is numeral '88'; surmounted by monarchical crown. Associated with the Crimean War (1854-1856).
