Description
Photograph of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome), which was the only structure left standing in the area where the first atomic bomb exploded on 6 August 1945. It has been preserved in the same state as immediately after the bombing, 1952 (c). From a collection of 28 photographs collected by Lt Georgina Johnstone, Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps, 1951-1955. Associated with the British Commonwealth Zone Medical Unit, Korea (1950-1953) and the Bombing of Hiroshima, World War Two, Far East (1941-1945).
