Two pairs of garter flashes from footwear and legwear worn by Colonel Andrew Jeffrey Pinion, Royal Artillery 1962 (c)-1991 (c). In red and blue Royal Artillery colours. Originally, Highlanders kept their hose in place with a ribbon or tape of red fabric. In hot climates, it became the fashion for other troops to adopt the ‘garter’ with tropical hosetops. The ends were allowed to hang down as flashes, and were/are in regimental or corps colours.
