Description
Pattern 1822 Royal Artillery officer’s sword, nd. Owned by Col Andrew Jeffrey Pinion, Royal Regiment of Artillery, 1957-1991 (c). The maker’s name, almost certainly Wilkinson, and the serial number have been rubbed off the sword. Remnants of the serial number are still visible on the shoulder of the blade, possibly a number around 10700, dating the sword at 1860. The sword is standard for the pattern, three-bar hilt with slightly curved, single-fullered blade decorated with emblem of the Royal Artillery and royal arms. Although used in the late twentieth century the sword has the cypher of Queen Victoria.
